We distribute our paper in several ways:-

Through the post
This is our ‘extended’ version. In addition to news items from the Wakefield Express and other local items, we also add three national magazines to this version. (Copyright restrictions prevent us from adding magazines to our online version.) Members can listen to about three hours of material every week.

To receive the USB version of the newspaper, listeners must be registered as partially sighted or blind, so that our materials can be sent and returned free of charge by the Royal Mail.  We can only distribute USB sticks within the UK.

We can lend USB players to any new members who do not already possess a means of listening to MP3 files on a USB stick. Our players are designed to be used by visually impaired people.

We need to know the names and addresses of listeners to be able to send them their USB sticks, so if you are interested in receiving our full/USB edition, or know someone who you think might benefit from receiving it, please contact us.

Online
We publish our ninety-minute, local news only version of the newspaper every Saturday morning in four ways:-

By web player:  Click on the ‘Listen here‘ page to open an online player.

By Phone: If you have an Android or Apple mobile phone you can listen to the ninety-minute version of Wakefield Talking Newspaper by using the BWBF’s ‘Talking Newspaper’ app. This app can be downloaded onto a phone from the Android ‘Play Store’ or the Apple ‘App Store’.  Once downloaded, Wakefield Talking Newspaper is listed under the ‘Yorkshire and Humberside’ section of the app. The app has an easy-to-use ‘cassette player’ set of buttons to control progress through the tracks.  

By Alexa: The British Wireless Fund (BWBF) for the Blind provides a skill that allows us to distribute our paper to any Amazon Alexa enabled device. See our ”By Alexa” page for further guidance about how to use this skill. 

By Google: The BWBF skill also works on any Google enabled device, although the Google commands are slightly different. See our ‘By Google’ page for guidance.
