We are always happy to hear from anyone who feels they may be able to help us. We have four recording ‘teams’, each team being responsible for recording and distributing one week’s Newspaper, so for most volunteers their commitment will be for a few hours on a Friday afternoon once every four weeks. We also have teams who copy and dispatch our editions to listeners. The copy teams, typically, devote two hours on Friday mornings and two hours on Monday mornings to WTN.
Volunteer roles within WTN include:-
- Readers: Each team has volunteers who come into our studio to read items from the Wakefield Express. Anyone wishing to become a reader will be invited to attend a sample recording session so that they can understand what is required.
- Recording Technicians: Each team needs at least one Technician, whose roles are to record the readings, to perform any necessary post-recording editing and to produce the master MP3 files. It helps us if volunteers for technician roles have some familiarity with basic computing and, better still, an interest in audio recording, although we are always happy to offer tuition to volunteers. We would be particularly happy to hear from anyone who could help in this role.
- Copying and dispatch: Every week our master files need to be duplicated onto memory sticks and these then need to be put into wallets and posted out to our listeners. Our copy team meets on Friday mornings to collect the returned MP3 sticks from the Post Office and reformat them, and on Monday mornings to copy our new recordings onto the sticks and then dispatch them to the Post Office.
Please contact us if you think you could offer to help us by becoming a volunteer.
